Unusual Cold Snap In Florida Raises Orange Juice Futures Prices

December 11, 2010 · Posted in futures and options · Comment
Lawrence Mijares – AHN News Contributor

Florida, United States (AHN) – Cold arctic wind and temperatures continue to blast their way across the southern and western fringes of the United States towards South Florida impelling Orange juice futures to rise by 4.8 percent or 7.6 cents before settling at either $1.646 or $1.6530 a pound by end of the year.

South Florida is forecast to have a low of 31 degrees in Palm Beach worrying citrus farmers and traders that if the cold snap were to continue for a longer period in north and central Florida, orange crops there may be damaged.

Orange juice futures hit a three- year high of $1.657 on Sept. 22.
